Square watermelons

Back to food icons!

Believe it or not, square watermelons are actually being produced in Japan. I want one!

Wrong season

It may be summer time, but that doesn't mean that this isn't still especially cute.

Inked with a brush as opposed to my usual nibs. I think the simple, chunky output looks pretty neat.

Round and roll

This picture sure turned out pretty wild, I wanted to try a few things I've not done in a while, such as the intense angle on this one. Some of these colours are very out of the norm for me, too.

Raina Telgemeier's art came to mind a lot as I was creating this piece.

Angry mountains, angrier hawks

This strange little image came to me as I was driving and the image really stuck in my head.

I especially dig the calm colour of the mountains and the big hole in one of the moons. Even though all of those birds are so upset, it still looks like a fun place to visit.

Aquatic theme

I'm really digging the recent aquatic theme of my drawings - I had a blast drawing all the legs of this here octopus. I also had fun with the big, expressive eyes - a treatment that characters of mine don't usually receive.

I took another shot at doing more graphic and decorative images like the crab one from the other day. I definitely like this new approach as something to experiment with.

Underwater friends

Continuing with the underwater theme, here's a lone fish.

I tried something new for this crab drawing below by just taking a big ol' brush and smashing the ink on. Everything else that I've been posting is done with a pen nib.

I then added the screentone look with colours as opposed to my usual flats. I think this has a great, simple look to it. I could see a print of it hanging next to a baby's crib.

Header

Drew up an underweater themed header for the top of the blog, and I must say - it's pretty spiffy.

Below is a higher resolution version of it so you can check out all of the little details.

Halloween's only a few months away, and I bet you haven't even given thought as to who you'll be dressing up as.

Ponder no more! Nothing's more in style right now than dressing up as everybody's favourite vacant white cat. The Tippy Halloween costume comes with everything shown to the left, including the fully poseable tail. Available from ages 3 to 12, regular to husky.

White robe not included.
